Yarn Along: Back To It!

Joining in with Ginny's Yarn Along after months away!

In addition to my first trimester aversion to staying awake all day and coffee came a complete lack of desire to knit. I can hardly believe it myself. I actually felt sick when I thought of making a stitch. Still, I started the Ten Stitch Twist blanket in the foreground using Fame Trend sock yarn. I LOVE the colours and the spiral shaping (using short rows) but was unsettled about the "bowl" thing that was happening. I imagine that with some blocking, it'll flatten out. But I set it aside anyways to start another using larger needles and thicker yarn. The blanket resting on the books is made from Cascade 220 and will hopefully grow as a gift for a friend's baby.

If you have a weekend to pass, I highly recomment Kathleen Grissom's The Kitchen House. I started it on a Friday afternoon and finished it Saturday morning. Yes, I stayed up most of the night reading it, and didn't regret it. It's a tremendous story. Read it.

I'm also starting to look at pregnancy-related books. I'm enjoying "The Natural Pregnancy Book" by Aviva Jill Romm.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope to find time this evening to check out YOUR links, too. For now, I must get ready for work. Enjoy the lovely weather (at least it's lovely in our part of the world)!

  1. The colors are so cute, but I see what you mean about the shaping. I hope it flattens out for you!

  2. I would love to knit that blanket, but first I must learn short rows. :) I am glad to hear you are feeling better and knitting is back in your life.
I will have to read the Kitchen House. Wow it must be really good, thanks for the recommendation.

  3. I've never seen a blanket knit up like that, very interesting. Love the colours.

  4. Welcome back to the Yarn Along - I'm new (third week) and am enjoying it immensely!
I see what you mean about the shaping - perhaps when the heavier outer parts are created it will create some positive ease? It looks too gorgeous to frog.

  6. I had started a ten stitch blanket a couple of weeks ago and was using scrap yarn. I didn't like the way the colors were going, so I ditched it. I think it would look much better in a variegated sort of yarn so I'll start another one some day.

  7. Love the colors! I know exactly what you mean about the first trimester aversion to knitting -- I had it, too! I only knitted a little sweater and vest and then I couldn't take it anymore. I mistakenly thought that I was bored with knitting (?!) and spent more time with my sewing machine, but now that I know we're having another boy I'm back at it and already completed two sweaters and cast on my third last night. Phew! Glad that haitus is over. I was getting worried!

  9. what a brilliant idea! I used to make braided wool rugs- loved them. This reminds me of a knit version of them, but in an easier to transport format.
    thanks so much for sharing.

  12. Love Aviva's books! She is such an amazing herbalist! Glad to see you are back at the knitting. My craft right now is my garden. Though it isn't as easy to be weeding and planting with a growing belly, it is truly therapuetic and meditative.

  13. I just finished knitting the February Lady Sweater in that same color combination (different yarn though). Isn't it fun?
